Why hello there...

and there....

And Goodnight!

Richard Frater at Newcall Gallery as well as the Digital Design students at St Paul Street were the gallery hops of the day.
This is what they say about Richard on the Newcall Gallery Website, because i am feeling lazy i will just highlight the important words so you can get an overview of the exhibition:

Richard Frater's work engages a number of disciplines, while using drawing as its guiding principal. His ongoing interests involve the creation of ephemeral architectural works, and the framing of materials performing live. The ways in which works' temporal natures are made apparent encourages comparison with theatre; here though, the stage-audience divide is minimal, and at times is dissolved. Gesture becomes a direct thread between a work and its audience. The works' origins are found in heterogeneous fields of representation, where one mode of production becomes the raw material for another.

>
I hope that was somewhat helpful.

We reminisced about Elliot's fluorescent tubes (which were the exact same ones that Richard uses in his show) and how we will miss his blue paint room which was so cruelly ripped from our bosom due to third year space needs...we didn't even get time to frolick in the meadows, with the room holding my hand, and I, holding onto it's fluorescent tubing electrical cord, hand and cord, cord and hand, in bowers fair, culling enchanted flowers, through the fields of air...

Alas, we did enjoy the show, but left feeling that we had somehow seen it before...somewhere...Perhaps I had time travelled in my dreams once and arrived at the exact same place only to wake up not really remembering it??

But before i could really think about it too much, off to Digital Design at St Paul Street. Seeing as I do not know much about Digital Design, I will just send you to a link of the first website you get when you google the words 'Digital Design':

I hope that was also very informative.

Thanks to Newcall, St Paul Street, and Ponsonby Food Hall for their services.

p.s. For those of you who haven't noticed (which would really be all of you) I got a new camera! I can no longer blame my crap photography on me sony cybershot but can instead blame it on the fact that i do not know how to use my new dslr. Don't worry, the ol' point 'n snap will still be accompanying me at all times for those days when I have to be undercover and inconspicuous with my snap happiness...

yay for new camera. yay for custard desserts. yay for sunny days. un-yay for the big hole new camera has burnt into wallet.

Hot Vids and Cheap Goals

I propose something similar in studio next year...any takers? Elliot? Simon? Yes??

Speaking of next year projects, this is whats on the board (Miss Ford! Generation Game = Heart):

- The Elliot + Agnes + Anyone Else epic marble track! Complete with K'nex and motorised parts and loop de loops and anything else we can imagine...

Ours of course will be more epic

- The Paint and Bake collective Exhibition. Yes we can...

- The Amberfying of Alan's Creme de la Creme Couch (we need couch!) which will include Thomas whipping up an awesome drop sheet cover and Amber bedazzlin' it with her sequin skills.

Not too keen on the domino record breaking though, perhaps that is a little too unreasonable...

But this is our concise list of things we must achieve next year! I will personally see to it...If we do not, i will delete this post and no one will ever know...ha! the magic of being moderator...muahahahahahhaa

Failure is not an option. Paint and Bakers, we have been warned...

Day of the Open

Ahhh yes with open day comes the actual finality of the year (not counting year 3 exhibition that is). Day was spent waking up late, rushing into uni half an hour late to set up projector oops (but in my defence, had not much sleep for the last month really), following CNN Election watch at Vesbar and then waiting around for the next 8 hours to pack up....and have the odd celebratory drink now and then...

As there were so much work around, I just had to make this post extremely image heavy. Bear with alright?

Afterwards, some of us adjourned to second level for D.A.N.C.E, except it was more like C.H.I.L.L because we were still tired (such a nanna I am).

That is all! End of year bloody hell...

Me, Vicky and Elliot being cheesy buggers as well

Hello!!!

To show that us art students aren't always dirty hovel dwelling studio whores, here are some pics from our night of booze, dessert and setting things on fire. Such fine examples we set for society...Set at Laxmi's mansion house, and with the rain not even coming close to dampening our spirits, the night was filled with magnesium goodness ranging from those annoying 'wailing witches to the awesome cone thingamajigs that look like tip top trumpets. Everyone was still rather tired from the midnight oil burning of the last few weeks but still had energy to run away from that rogue firework that fell over and started blasting at random into our direction...(I think I heard Lee exclaim 'let's do that one again!!!').

Happy Guy Fawkes! (although it's a tad late now...)

Finito

As of 9am this morning, years 1 & 2 were over with for the year! (not including open day and any dismantling of work/cleaning up that we still have to do). Yes as I drove/ran in at 8.30am, expecting that I would be the only one who was putting up some last minute things, I was met by Clint who told me that 'everyone was running'! Was a frenzy and chaos of people still trying to set up and slip contextual statements or documentation in before the tutors noticed that time had ticked over to 9.01am...

But alas, as much as I am relieved that it is over with, I'm still met with a tingle of melancholy. Perhaps because I am very much a creature of habit and with each new year comes a new studio dynamic (just when i was getting comfortable in this year's studio..)

However, next year is what it is and will be exciting none the less. Third year = scary thought = hell yes! And hopefully, this blog will get a few more writers/photographers/interesting people on board.
Keep posted over the next few days for open day photos.
