Empty table = The End

Busy.

One word that could be used to explain the Third Year Graduating Exhibition.

Awesome.

Another word that could be used to explain the Third Year Graduating Exhibition.

Another exhibition, another signalling of the end. What a year. And all the hard work culminating in this one showing. Third years must be very proud. And Tired.

Highlights:

- Sophie's speech/dance on behalf of all Third Years.

- Talking with Andy and Alan about sneakiness, thank yous in cantonese and books.

- FEEEDBACK on the mic!!

- Discussions with Vivien and her Dad about how Cornflakes = Depression, which in turn = Good Art

- Agness (with two s's)

Thinking ahead to next year, I tried to imagine what my graduating show would look like. And the reality that most of us are heading into third year ourselves is starting to sink in.

Visit the Visual Arts Graduating Website for more pictures/info on those graduating this year.

Am much too tired to write anymore. Apologies.

3rd Blogger! Water Blasting can be fun!

No she’s not using fake names there are actually other people adding to the Paint and Bake! You’ve probably seen me in the odd photo here and there as it’s near impossible to dodge Agnes’ trigger happiness on our outings. Anyway I thought I’d just keep this nice and short.

I was getting somewhat bored with water blasting my driveway the conventional way so I decided to mix things up a bit. I added my own personal touch. My 2d drawing of what most would describe as a 3d cube, something I have been a little (extremely) obsessed with over the last semester. I won’t go into too much detail about the text and shapes but I like to think they represent different and often opposing directions of opinion but still hold a strong equality and fairness together. But that’s just my little reflection, yours can be completely different. Maybe you think it’s a boy and a girl cube about to embark on a sexual journey of exploration and experimentation? Na, probably not…

I went over it in the end but maybe next time I’ll leave it and visitors can enjoy my very own personalised driveway art. :)

Room One Hundred and Three

Oh hello there!

Gallery hoppin' part two ensured two things:

a) more art students
b) more dodgy free booze

Rm103 had a poster exhibition by Simon Esling and Scott Satherly. Apparently there was a one man band but I think we were too late for that as I was driving like mad trying to find parking downtown (impossible feat, I know). Was particularly enamored by the giant tape cassettes and the drawings in the rooms. Was like technicolour dreamcoat meets severed thumb action. Anyone care for a giant red abject balloon coming out of a rainbow house? I do!

Then upstairs to A.C.F.A to Holly Willson's 'The Hardest Talent to Cultivate' which gave us roly-polys (rolie polie?) and hula hoop fun. I once hula hooped for an hour straight. True Fact. I particularly liked the installation of the work but was hard to navigate on opening night as people seem like to congregate in corners, thus causing an obstruction between work and me. Alas, such are the truths of openings, where you never really go to see the work do you? Or it's much harder to take in when there are other people crowding around. Does this mean that art viewing is a solitary act? I often find myself drifting from companions when I enter a gallery...mostly because I like to view works at my own pace then talk about it with said companions afterwards. Perhaps this is just me though. Which is fine.

Thomas and I wet our pants over the awesomeness of Achilles House. Sure it's a hole. And I don't think anyone should be in there for more than an hour (asbestos anyone??). But we like the deco. And we like floorboards of A.C.F.A.

Rest of the night was spent at Charlie's (another paint n baker) BF's gig where we indulged in....what kind of music do you call it? Can't be emo (i have issues with the usage of this word anyway), can't be punk, can't be pop-punk, can't be rock...anyway you get the idea. It was loud. There was a burger king crown involved. I won't go into details.

Tomorrow is Year Three Exhibition. Till then

Mathew Browne

Hot New Writer Alert!!!

Sound the sirens! After months of nagging my fellow classmates to write snippets for the blog, Laxmi has decided to come through on her promise. This is a piece on a show she went to last night (that i unfortunately missed). See I told you there were exciting new things happening on this blog...

So here we go ladies and gents Laxmi's Piece on Mathew Browne.

Mathew Browne
Mercurial Space
Artis Gallery
280 Parnell road
12Nov- 7 Dec

The opening of Mathew Browne at Artis gallery was a full house. Mathew did some sculptures with his paintings which is new. They sat well with his paintings. Those who don't know Mathew, he teaches at Art Station. If anyone wants to attend these casual art classes, Art Station is the place.

Met some old friends from Art Station and some new at the opening. I met two ladies who are joining AUT next year. They were nervous about the whole thing. All I have to say is that if I can do it so can you. Welcome to AUT!!
- Laxmi

Indeed, Welcome to AUT two ladies!! Yes we will look forward to getting to know you. We are a tight bunch here.

Yay for new writers
Yay for new ladies

Word Play

Found this in today's Herald in the Viva Section...

Now for those of you who don't really know much about us AUT-ers, we like to make up words to use during crits in order to a) have specific words that we know means something specific therefore making it easier when we want to describe/talk about someone's work, b) because we like to confuse tutors with our secret squirrel language as a way of taking back the power! muahahahaha

Anyway, so far we have a small list, or dictionary if you will, of words that we have made up/like to use regularly:

1. Smauve
2. Puce

Such are two examples. Now...taking a closer look at this article here....

Whaaaa? You mean it was actually a word?....Or maybe those sneaky fashion devils at Viva caught wind of our new pants word and decided to jump on the bandwagon.

but no....turns out it is a word!

dictionary results for: puce

–adjective 1. of a dark or brownish purple.
–noun 2. a dark or brownish purple.

hmmmm..... Brownish purple, we did not know....

So for the sake of saving our made up word (which used in the AUT context, doesn't mean dark or brownish purple anyway) we will instead, spell it:

Puse

Revised Dictionary:

1. Smauve
2. Puse

Long live adjectives!
